Code of Conduct
Code of Conduct & Safe Spaces Statement
Our philosophy is simple: be excellent to each other. Festival City Swing is committed to producing a friendly, educational and most importantly fun event where everyone feels safe. This page outlines the behaviour we expect and what to do if you feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
If You Need Help
If you experience any non-excellent behaviour, please speak to the Safe Space Ambassador or any member of the team.
Reports are handled with the greatest possible discretion and confidentiality. If you’d prefer to speak to a different team member, that’s absolutely fine.
Our Promise
- We will listen with care, respect, and kindness.
- We will act firmly when needed to protect the community.
- We will keep matters as confidential as possible.
Behaviour Expectations
Everyone has a responsibility to themselves and to others to make this event enjoyable and comfortable. As the saying goes: “Be excellent to each other.”
- No harassment. Harassment in any form will not be tolerated, including but not limited to intimidation, bullying, stalking, sustained disruption of events, inappropriate physical contact, unwanted sexual attention, and discriminatory language (including offensive comments or gestures related to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, or religion).
- Keep language appropriate. Sexual language is not appropriate during any part of this event, even when intended in jest. We welcome a diverse melting pot of individuals—please be aware of your audience.
-
Alcohol & dance floor safety.
Alcohol is permitted, but under no circumstances should you be on the dance floor if you are drunk.
If you need to sober up, notify event staff—we can provide water, a place to sit and breathe, and/or help you get a taxi.
If we believe you are “too drunk to funk” and could harm yourself or others, we will ask you to leave the space and return
to your room or accommodation.
No drinks on the dance floor. Ain’t nobody needing sticky dance shoes because of a calamitous collision of cocktails.
- Illegal behaviour. Any unlawful behaviour will be treated extremely seriously and dealt with by the appropriate authorities. Police will be contacted immediately if illegal activity is observed.
- Respect the venue. Please treat the venue and equipment with care. Accidents happen—if damage occurs, take ownership and let us know. You will be expected to take responsibility for replacement/repair costs, and we will work with you kindly and fairly to find the best way forward.
- Dance invitations & consent. Everyone has the right to rest or decline a dance. No one should be refused a dance for discriminatory reasons, including dance ability. Be polite and kind. If someone declines, respect it—there’s no reason to take offence.
- Not listed doesn’t mean allowed. This list can’t cover every situation. If something occurs that isn’t explicitly mentioned here, it will still be addressed. We care and will do everything we can to provide a comfortable and safe space.
Spa Behaviour
Please use good judgement and don’t do anything that would embarrass the Event Directors or your peers; this includes any sexual act. Please remember this is a family environment.
